Generalist vs Specialist

My father is a generalist and I am Specialist. My father is of age 60 and I am 32.

Upbringing

My Father

Brought up in an agricultural family my father has gone through all sort of hardships . He has grown up doing farming activities like looking after animals like oxen and buffaloes. He has learned the farming skills and associated skills there. He also studied good enough.

MySelf

I trained myself into a machine which puts hours into studies . I helped my father in farming activities but not sufficient to gain proficiency. I did good at studies and got a software developer job.

Skills

My Father

My father is a teacher by profession, he is a farmer all his life, he can do electrical work, skin a chicken to cook for us, can climb Indian palm trees to feed us its fruits , and can also build a house. All these things he can do with some level of quality which is difficult to achieve.

MySelf

I am specialist. I can code and a software developer by profession. I am reasonably good at what I do. I have some hobbies as writing, playing cricket.

Money

My Father

My father worked hard all his life didn’t save much all his life. He has experimented with money he earned by teacher profession on farmland.

MySelf

I earn decent amount of money which is sufficient to lead a decent life. But the money I earned is sufficient to fulfill our needs. The money is not enough to do some thing on my own.

Achievements

My Father

My father has started and closed couple of schools, has grown all kinds of things in farm land, brought up myself and my brother to be hard work individuals, built a good house acquired some farm land. All these things he has done with little stress and going through ups and downs of his life.

MySelf

I studied hard, helped my father in his farming activities, got a job and toiled hard for 10 years in Software Industry. I endured a lot of stress and did some good work and a lot of crappy work.

World seems to be asking for more specialists so it can make sense of them and know where to place them.

Being a generalist is more human in nature, the generalist acheive things by bringing together specialists. They fail more times and succeed less times. They were needed to bringing some thing new to this world.

Being a specialist is good enough to land you a job earn a decent life but It would be difficult to conjure something on your own.
