Its not too late in the night. I am traveling in my motor cycle from my mother in law place to mine. It was getting dark as it is the time of the year where the sun goes early. I met this person who stopped me for a ride.

He is 40 years old and seems to have lost. As soon as I stopped he started praising me for my kindness. I doubted him there only. It was a 40 min journey and he was continuously talking.

I live in a rural area in India and it is pitch dark. I got fear for my life for the stupidest act I have done to give him ride. I don’t know this person he might have an alibi down the road and rob me off. I prayed that I should reach my destination safely. I was also exited because now I days I rarely encounter new people because of the kind of job I do. It is a relief to talk to some one even he is a con man.

He showed me the id card of a big software company as a proof to trust him. He talked about how he lost his bag. He said the bag was stolen by a thief when the bus he is traveling has stopped. The bag he said has an iPhone, money and all his belongings.

I keep on asking questions as I don’t believe him. He gave reasonable answers. I concealed my true job as I thought it might make him more greedy. He bragged about himself that he is a big corporate guy and he can help me to get a good job.

I didn’t believe most of what he said but what if some thing he said was true. He said he will continue the remaining journey by walk and has not ate anything. I got sympathetic towards end of my journey and though giving him a 200 Rupees (1.5 dollars) , but I don’t have change and ended up give 500 note. He gave me his phone number and left.

There is no repayment from him after four days and I tried to call him but he blocked me. I felt bad telling this incident to my wife and now my trust for random strangers become low. Now I stopped to donating to anonymous orphanage which I donate once in a while thinking that it might be fraud.
