Security guards – Urban areas of India
When I go near the security guard the thought that comes to my mind is how to escape this guy. I am legit guy how they just not allow me and also why we need security ?
The demographics of security guards we see in Hyderabad are mostly from north India. There are language barriers as the residents also contains people from south.
My encounters with security guards are far too many in my life. The gated community I live is guarded by the security guards and also my office, the bike service room, and every shopping mall I visit has security guards and so on.
Shopping mall and public places
This security guards the perimeter of the offices and also guard the parking spots with utmost vigil. Some times they double up the role and involve in the office activities like taking care of helmets. The parking spots are a big problem in most urban cities like Hyderabad and security guards have to guard them. This folks have to differentiate between people who are entering to their building and other folks who are trying to take these spots but have their business in some other building. I think it’s difficult for both sides, the rider who doesn’t understand why the watchman is cursing them for just taking advantage of empty spot.
Offices
Security guard people who don’t have IDs. They have to smile at all employees, Its not a requirement but most people do. Here things are little better I feel as they have access to better facilities. These people are also responsible for organizing the Indian independence days and republic days.
Gated communities
These are bunch that are always in the eye of the storm. If they take their job seriously they are to blame. If they didn’t take seriously they are the one to blame.
With the gated communities are on the rise, there is need for security guards. These guys have to safe guard the people , keep on check on who is entering and who is leaving the Community.
One a daily basis this following things enter into a Community. Water tankers, School buses, Packers and movers because there is always some one moving out and coming, and also Guests.
I notice many time they are indifferent and rude. I asked one of them how much they get paid. He said 10k and some times they do shifts to earn more money.
Folks blame them when they got stopped and asked about their credentials. They should be aware of who is a tenant and who is not just by faces. That is a difficult job.
In my apartment the whole security guard team are fired and went with other bidders because some one are stealing the battery in the parking lot . I think this is because of capitalistic system which doesn’t has a face and just removes people.
Apartments
Here a family lives in the ground floor with a single room and work as security also. They live along with bykes and cars in the basement. Some times the watchmen takes up other acitivity like Pressing and the his wife work as house help for the apartment owners.
Conclusion
Overall I think we have to improve our empathy for the security guards. These guys are paid less and have less training, don’t know about the customs of the current region but trying to get the job done.
